Government schools have been observed to suffer from lack of infrastructure and manpower. This has resulted in deterioration in the learning process, poor results and pass percentages, and preference for (more expensive) private schools. Roots is working with prominent academicians to revive the government school education system in Haryana by way of planning a series of sensitization meets with various stakeholders in the rural areas of Haryana. Such initiatives will be replicated in other states in due course.
Complementing Existing Teaching Infrastructure
We also work with the families of the adopted communities to render basic education to children. We have created a framework of cooperation with existing education providers in these regions to complement their infrastructure and staffing, thus ensuring the best learning at the village level schools. Our education team provides online classes on various pre-agreed subjects to these school children. Our endeavour is to ensure that the next generation of rural communities is not only more educated but also more aware of employment opportunities and various government schemes for rural development.
Roots Foundation has also launched the D.D. Bahuguna Education Scholarship for Meritorious Students wherein:
Two school-going children from the underprivileged sections will be given upto Rs. 50,000 per year for senior secondary education (selection to be done based on class X marks and need assessment)
Two students from the underprivileged sections will be given up to Rs. 1,00,000 per year for graduation/post-graduation/entrance exam preparation (selection to be done based on class XII marks, need assessment and aptitude test)
